WEIRD CONCOCTIONS
I hate dinuguan (pork innards stewed in pig's blood) and liver (no foie gras for me). But I do have adventurous taste buds. I like experimenting with food. Well, some of these concoctions are not mine. I learned some of them from my family. Here they are:
CORNIK FLOAT - I mentioned this in one of my previous blog posts. This is the weird concoction I can really call my own. Just put a small bag of corniks in a tall glass of 7 Up. Let them float. Be careful not to choke though. You can drink the 7 Up first and then eat the wet corniks.
(CORNIK - A popular Filipino snack food made by deep frying dried corn with lots of garlic and adding a dash of salt afterwards. See picture below.)
GREEN MONGGO ICE POP - Boil monggo (mung beans) until the beans are mushy. Add milk and sugar. Pour into ice candy bags or ice pop molds. Freeze. It's nutritious, but I don't guarantee that you will like it.
BANANA, PAPAYA, MANGO AND CHOCOLATE SHAKE - No, I don't have to pluralize the word "shake." Yup, you put all those fruits together in a blender, add cocoa powder, milk, sugar and ice. Blend the mixture at high speed. Pour into tall glasses and enjoy.
MILO AND PEANUT BUTTER SANDWICH - Spread some peanut butter on a sliced bread. Top with Milo chocolate drink (you may use Ovaltine). You can toast an open-faced sandwich in an oven toaster until the Milo melts a bit. (This won't work in a pop-up type toaster).
MILO/OVALTINE FUDGE - The simplest way to make candy. I simply expose Milo or Ovaltine to air and moisture until it becomes sticky and attains a fudgy consistency. Cut into bite-sized pieces and enjoy.
PEANUT BUTTER AND CHEESE SANDWICH - Trust me. This is good. Add some cheddar cheese to your peanut butter sandwich. For pinoys, use Eden cheese. It's the best cheese for this type of sandwich.
INDIAN STYLE FRIED CHICKEN - Just add curry powder to your usual fried chicken recipe. Yum!
FRIED CHICKEN WITH PATIS (fish sauce) - Mix patis, calamansi (a citrus fruit) or lemon and minced garlic into a bowl. Marinate the chicken in the mixture. Coat the chicken with flour and fry.
SPAGHETTI BOLOGNAISE WITH RAISINS - Add some raisins to your usual bolognaise sauce.
ADOBO WITH SESAME OIL - Add some sesame oil to your adobo. Trust me, it's good.
LUCKY ME PANCIT CANTON AND CHOPSUEY - Top your cooked, ready to eat Lucky Me pancit canton with chopsuey. I often buy a pack of Lucky Me whenever my Mom cooks chopsuey.
