Crab with Fur: The Yeti Crab

With its long, furry appendages, the newly-discovered Yeti Crab resembles the legendary abominable snow man. It was discovered in 2005 on the floor of the Pacific Ocean during a deep-sea diving expedition. The creature is so unusual that a new taxonomic family and genus had to be created for it. Its scientific name is Kiwa hirsuta.  It was named for Kiwa, the goddess of the shellfish in the Polynesian mythology.  "Hirsuta" means "hairy" in Latin. The Yeti Crab is blind. It has fur that supports colonies of bacteria which detoxifies the toxins found in emitted by hydrothermal vents where the creature lives.

Talking Dogs

This is one of my favorite videos on YouTube. You might have seen this before, but you might be like me. See, I don't get tired of watching it again and again. It's just wonderfully weird to hear a dog talk.

Weird Fish: Wanna Swim in the Amazon River?

Meet the candiru. "Candiru" literally means "toothpick" in Spanish. It's a very small fish. It lives in the Amazon River. It is translucent, so its presence is hard to detect in the Amazon's turbid waters. It is a parasite. It sucks blood from the catfish's gills. How does it find its host? By detecting the ammonia that the catfish's gills exude as the catfish swims close by.

Ammonia is abundant in urine. So what happens when a human swims in the Amazon River and then pees underwater?
